There are great health benefits for both those who build and those who live in a house insulated with hemp. The house gets a more even humidity and temperature. The insulation does not have any dangerous fibers that irritate the skin and get stuck in the respiratory system when building or living in the house.
Hemp is grown naturally without pesticides and no chemicals are used in the breeding process. Hemp fibers do not contain any environmentally hazardous chemicals and the hemp fibers come from a very renewable source.
Hemp is an annual herb that is very fast-growing – almost four meters in 100 to 120 days. It binds carbon dioxide more efficiently than many other plants. In one cubic meter of hemp fiber (about 50 kg), about 75 kg of carbon dioxide is stored during the growing period. During cultivation, harvesting and industrial processing, about 13 kg of carbon dioxide is lost, which still leaves about 62 kg of carbon dioxide in the finished fibers.
Pests such as mice do not thrive in hemp insulation.
