Hemp study trip

When I recieved the informations about the start of the project I was in Türkiye on a Minfor Field Scholarship, studying Hemp in history. But that didn´t stop me and my friends from start planning activities in this project (of course). And the week after midsummer we made the first Study-trip to the south of Sweden – Skåne. Meeting hemp-farmers on the way.

The purpose for us was to gain knowledge about the possibilities of hempfarming here in the north.

We made a stop in Omberg, at Ligas place.

And at the textile museeum/shool in Borås. This is their weaving lab.

In the museeum they promoted (to nobodys surprise) localy produced fabric and local production of clothes. For the sake of the environment.

In Skåne, lots of farmers grow hemp. It is used for insulation at Ecolution. It is obvious that they have another climat than us in the North – our hemp was about 1 decimeter above ground at the same time as this picture was taken i Skåne.

We attended the Hemp festival, and tried Habab. A ”kebab” made of hemp. Extremely delicious. Habab Family – Home of the Habab

And we listened to panel discussions about hemp.

And looked at the exhibition Svenska industrihampaföreningen had put together. Finding the right kinds of hemp for us in the north seems crucial.

We also tried som hemp snacks on the way

And we learned how the cows were fed with hemp during the Second World War

Over all a fantastic trip, with lots of new knowledge and networking.

This study-trip is part of the Leader-project ”Återställa hampa i jordbruket”
